Dr. Lauren B. Philips

Interests: I’ve always had a love of losing myself in a good book and writing about them as well. I also enjoy traveling, as seeing new sites and meeting new people helps me appreciate the many cultures around us. That said, I am most at home in the academic setting and am currently pursuing a doctorate program in Higher Education here at GW in the hopes to continue on as a university professor and administrator. We’ll see where that adventure takes me!

DC favorites: Ogling over the displays at The National Gallery of Art and The Newseum, walking on the left, and simply wandering through the many distinctive neighborhoods of the city and stumbling upon its equally numerous and varied cultural events.

Dr. Lauren Philips joined the CCAS advising office as an Academic Advisor in July of 2010 and now serves as a Sr. Advisor for the First Year Experience. Lauren is a Pod 2 advisor who also currently advises cohorts of high school students from the School Without Walls who are in the GW-Early College Program completing their Associate’s degree alongside their high school diploma. She also serves on the Professional Academic Advising Network at GW as a professional development chair. Lauren received her MA in English through Georgetown University and her Bachelor of Arts in English and French, with a minor in History, from The Washington University in St. Louis. She recently completed her doctoral degree in GW’s Higher Education Administration Ed.D program. Prior to working at GW, Lauren worked as a Continuing Student Coordinator at Strayer University and briefly served as an adjunct professor for English composition at the Northern Virginia Community College. Lauren was raised in Monterey, California, and has a passion for literature, quality time with friends, and learning through the day to day.
