Our Philosophy
The CCAS Approach
The CCAS Undergraduate Academic Advising Office supports a diverse community of students in the exploration of a liberal arts education. Through meaningful conversations with advisors, students learn how to find resources, engage in life-changing opportunities and think critically about their individual academic plans. Advisors introduce strategies to foster personal and academic success in a welcoming, supportive environment that values each student’s experiences and strengths.
The POD Model
In order to best support each student, all undergraduates are assigned to a POD (Place of Discovery). You can make appointments virtually or on a walk-in basis with any advisor from your POD to ask questions about academic goals and requirements, work through challenges and plan for your future.
Fun fact: A group of hippos is called a pod

Leah Kuppermann
Academic Advisor, POD 1
Leah Kuppermann has been a POD 1 Advisor in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences since August 2022. Prior to coming to GWU, Leah worked in college admissions. Leah grew up in New York and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Studies & Women's Studies from the University of New Hampshire. She is currently earning her Master of Arts in Organizational Sciences from GW! Leah loves cooking and hosting, seeing live shows - musicals, concerts, comedy, etc - exploring DC, and traveling!
