Hometown: Phillipsburg, NJ

Interests: Philadelphia sports (Fly Eagles Fly!), politics, reality television

Favorite college class: A Modern American Literature course; I was a broadcasting major and thus didn't have to read much.  However, this course took me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to think differently.

DC Favorites:  I am always looking for new places to eat and drink, so pass them along!

Matthew Kaulius has been a member of the CCAS Advising team since September 2017.  He can't say that he is entirely surprised that he is now living in Washington, DC, as in sixth grade he wrote an autobiography where he became Speaker of the House of Representatives. Beyond running Congress, Matt's early life ambition as a child in Phillipsburg, NJ was to be the next radio voice of his beloved Philadelphia Phillies. He pursued his interest in broadcasting while as an undergraduate student at Ramapo College of New Jersey. While as a student, he became heavily involved in campus life and governance and one day someone asked him if he had ever thought of a career in higher education. This was a strange and unusual concept to him, but after some investigation, he realized that this was indeed a thing people could do for a living.

With a new game plan and renewed vigor, Matt set off for graduate study in Student Personnel Administration at the State University of New York College at Buffalo. While in Buffalo, Matt interned in academic advising and was hooked. He found that advising provided him with an opportunity to work directly with students and impact their lives while still furthering his interest in academic policy and procedure. Since leaving the cold and snow of Buffalo, Matt has held advising-related positions at several institutions; including Long Island University, Temple University, and Rutgers University-Camden. In these roles, he has always kept the goal in mind of inspiring and encouraging students to find, set and achieve their personal, professional and academic goals.

While not advising and working with students; Matt enjoys spending time with friends and family, long walks on the beach, and trying to smile and enjoy each day. Matt is a ravenous sports fan, particularly for the long-suffering Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, and also greatly enjoys college football and the Canadian Football League. His quest is to attend a game at every major league baseball ballpark and so far has hit fifteen of them.
